After the opening day stalemate the Vikings went to Leverington with a target of only three points will do before a difficult run of games against Peterborough Sports Reserves and Ketton.

The Vikings started well, playing some very attractive football and looking very dangerous particularly through Ashley Firth down the right wing, who had the early beating of his man and was putting some very dangerous crosses into the home team’s box.

Keishon Wilson who was making his second debut for the Vikings had the first real effort of the game breaking through a couple of Leverington tackles Keishon found himself free on the edge of the box but his shot was saved by the home keeper. Leverington had now turned the game into a battle, but Langtoft weren’t backing down either and this provided a very intense midfield battle. The breakthrough came from the penalty spot, Jason Cook was adjudged to have pushed his man in the box and the home side made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Second half started in the same pattern as the first the Vikings played some attractive football, but Leverington sat deep and protected their lead, the Vikings had two very good efforts saved from the home keeper one from Firth and another from Wilson. The equaliser came from the penalty spot, Lewis Bradley and Firth worked a short corner and found Matt Holland in the box, who “Cruyff” turned and was brought down. Firth stepped up and made no mistake. The Vikings now had a new confidence and it was within two minutes that they would take the lead, Tiago Camilo who’s excellent performances in the reserves had won him a call up to the first team flicked in a superb cross from Wilson.

Langtoft manager Ryan Hunnings: “It was a real battle, but it always is when you come out to Leverington. It was great to see the fight back, being behind was very harsh. We played some great football, it was pleasing to see we didn’t stop playing and our heads didn’t drop.

“The win was nothing less than we deserved we dominated possession and had the better chances, it’s great to see the lads playing with a smile on their faces again, and I’m looking forward to the tests in the next few games.”

Langtoft: Andrew Isabell, Mitchell Capes, Steven Slack, Matt Holland, James Duffy (Jake Waller), Ashley Firth, Jason Cook, Jobi Froud, Sam Thompson (Lewis Bradley), Keishon Wilson, Corey Kingston (Tiago Camilo)
