Lasswade travelled to Ardrossan with some hopes of coming back with some points in their now desperate battle to avoid relegation.
Sadly it was not to be. In a close fought but error-strewn first half, the only scores went to Ardrossan with a try by Lewis on the twenty minute mark followed very shortly by a penalty converted by Anderson.
8-0 was stretched to 11-0 in the first minute of the second half when a Lasswade tackler failed to roll away and a quarter of an hour later the hosts capitalised on a turnover of ball on half-way with No 8, finishing off the counter in the Lasswade corner.
Lasswade stuck to the task and were eventually rewarded when Turnbull finished off a 15 metre catch and drive and Hennessey converted to make it 16-7 but Ardrossan restored the 16 point gap through their centre, McKechnie and another Anderson conversion.
Lasswade had the final say with the final move of the match when Hunter barged over but too far out for the conversion.
Even before this fixture, Lasswade’s only faint hope of avoiding relegation lay with Whitecraigs winning no more than one of their remaining fixtures. Against the form book Whitecraigs hammered Kirkcaldy at home with a bonus point win of 38-5. Even if Lasswade take the points in the meeting of the two clubs at Hawthornden on 26 March, their rivals only need two points from their remaining six games to stay in Division 2 and confirm Lasswade’s relegation.
