Lasswade 55 Perthshire 19
Lasswade needed at least a win from this match to secure promotion while Perthshire, third from bottom, were anxious to garner any points possible. Lasswade won the away leg 49-20 way back in September but Perthshire earned the four try bonus in the process.
In the event the match went with the form book with an early try by Greig followed by Clarke, Robertson and the bonus point try by Greig again just on half-time. A conversion by Matt Smith brought the total to 22.
However, a couple of careless passes had been intercepted and run in by Perthshire so they were only 10 points behind.
The home side knuckled down after the break and, dominant in all areas, a penalty try laid the foundations for second tries by Clarke and Robertson and, in the dying minutes, Kyle Smith made the most of a break by Hunter to dot down beside the post. A conversion by Matt Smith and two by Clarke gave the hosts a final tally of 55.
Perthshire, however, never threw in the towel and in the last move of the game Rae found a gap and Bruce converted to make a final score of 55-19.
While Lasswade can celebrate their promotion the title is still not decided.
Lasswade have 71 league points, two games (with 10 possible league points) to play and a current points difference of 351 including an away trip to Berwick. Berwick have 57 league points, and five games (with 25 possible league points) to play and a current points difference of 196.
This Saturday Lasswade travel to Cupar to take on Howe of Fife who still have an interest in the runner’s up spot. Kick-off 3pm.
