Twas the match before Christmas...

Old Georgians were up next in a rearranged fixture that left the Law struggling for numbers with a cohort of players making their 1st team debuts, despite these less than ideal circumstances the law performed admirably in defeat. The match was a tight affair in the opening 20 minutes OG’s scoring first but the law replying shortly after with a try from Tom Maclean who managed to slither under the Georgian defence after a sustained period of forward pressure. Late in the first half James Thomas, starting in the unfamiliar outside centre channel, was the unfortunate recipient of a yellow card for a high tackle and during the 10 minute period the law were depleted they conceded 2 converted tries before the first half drew to a close.

The second half saw the law play with real vigour and desire to get back into the game. The law narrowed the deficit with a classic score from Rick Armstrong who powered over from close range for his first try. Sadly Old Georgians scored a 4th try of their own to maintain a two try cushion going into the final quarter. However the gap was narrowed once more when Armstrong scored his second try of the match from a delightfully delayed pass from debutant flyhalf Jack Mcgill followed by a barnstorming run from 20 yards out and through multiple defenders, this score was succesfully converted by Mcgill. OGs did not let the law’s efforts deter them with the home side scoring a final try to put the game to bed, the OG’s kicker demonstrating perfect accuracy as he hit his fifth successful conversion. As the clock ticked down the Law were now striving for a fourth try bonus point and this thankfully came in the familiar form of a strong lineout drive with Josh Emmett touching down as he had done twice in the previous week. Despite the loss the Law Society could be proud of their efforts to come away with a bonus point in adverse circumstances and with a very new look side.
