Angry with themselves?
By Richard Wilkinson
Angry Owls 3 - 0 Leeds Bar
Long term absentees Graeme Sarjeant and Adi Tallon returned following injury to bolster the Owls team. Tom Bindloss, not seen since the summer, also joined the Owls meaning that a full squad were present for the first time in many months. Sarjeant and Binloss both contributed tries, justifying their selections, whilst Tallon also showed showed some nice touches. The only concern for ever present player administrator Rich Wilkinson was the nervous tension that some players displayed. Perhaps the result of the running critique their efforts received from 'Gunny' Sarjeant or the influx of returning players back into the squad.
A plucky Leeds Bar outfit limited Leeds Akkies to a total of three tries, with one more added by Tim Swann, but Owls really should have done better with the firepower they had at their disposal. They made far too many errors and played the game at a slower pace than they are capable of meaning they didn't put their opponents under enough sustained pressure.
Angry Owls should however be proud of their defensive efforts stifling the attacking threat of Bar who saw their one true chance of a try knocked down by Tom George after they worked an overlap.
With the players now available to Wilkinson the Owls will be hoping to challenge for honours this season but they must do better than this.
