Leek Veterans started their annual tournament against last years winners and one of the hardest teams in the tournament on Wednesday night

Leek Vets 7 v 0 Newcastle Vets

As normal the tournament is played at Trenthams ground. Leek vets looked Strong from the start with familiar faces in the form of Paddy Lawlor , Mark Clowes , Duane Robinson and Andy Chandler. But even with the wealth of experience and talent this would be no walk in the park for the Leek guys. From the off Newcastle looked Strong in the scrums and due to a neck injury young Loose Head Prop Matt Leather had to retire from the match resulting in the scrums going uncontested.
The Leek side attacked well with some good breaks from the forwards and backs alike with every player putting in 100%.
At the half time whistle the score board was even. But with some Strong words of encouragement from Captain Niel Edge the Leek side went back at the opposition with a new strength. After an attack by the Newcastle side Leek managed to turn over at the break down and with quick ball handling and good lines of running saw Andy Chandler over for a well deserved try. this boosted the Leek side and Newcastle came back hard with their response but Leek held Strong and defended well to emerge with the win.
