LEEK TOWN WIN THE CHRIS McMULLEN MEMORIAL TROPHY MATCH

A very young Leek Town side triumphed 3-1 over Leek CSOB in the Chris McMullen Memorial Trophy at Pointon Park.

It was the Blues who took the lead through James Kirby who muscled through the defence with a neat finish, and Leek Town went close again in the first half with another neat move which skimmed the bar.

In the second half Old Boys came out with much more purpose but it was Leek who stretched their lead through Jack Hurd, who volleyed home from the left far post after a deep cross. With 20 minutes to go the Blues made sure with James Reid finishing from close range after another good cross. Old Boys clawed one back but the Blues safely saw the game out.

Andy Walters spoke to the the players and crowd, remembering Chris and his achievements for both Clubs, before presenting the Trophy to the winning captain.

This is the seventh time the game has been contested with Leek Town winning 5 times and Leek CSOB twice.

This was a great game, played in a good spirit, with several hundred in attendance.
