As the 2024-2025 season drew to a close Leek Town took time out to celebrate some noticeable milestones across the season. Our primary objective was to remain in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division, and with that secured an impromptu celebration was held after training.
Up first was an appearance award for the very popular Billy Reeves. Billy notched up 200 appearances this season, in his second spell at the Club, after returning this season to play a major part in our first Step 3 campaign in over 18 seasons. Billy is now on 218 appearances.
The award presented by Director Tracey Reynolds and received by our next long serving player Liam Buckley. Billy was not able to make the awards after training due to a previous commitment. Our photo gallery also shows the award represented after the Gainsborough Trinity game.
Next up was a new category being Young Player of the Year, this was chosen by the management team and backroom staff and presented by Joe Lally. The winner of this award was Tom Curl who with 36 appearances was ever present until his recent injury - well done Tom.
This was quickly followed by the Supporters Player of the Season and was presented by long standing supporters and Club sponsors Chris Bailey and Anthony Beatham. As ever this is always a keenly contested award and in 3rd place was Nathan Okome and in 2nd was Liam Buckley but the winner was local boy Alex Hurst.
Next up was the Players Player Award, a very prestigious award and again the winner was Billy Reeves. This was received by Club Captain Dino Visser and presented by Vice Chairman Paul Bateman.
Our next award out Goal-den Boot Award for the highest goal scorer for the season and presented by Director Simon Knight. At the point of presentation the player with the highest number of goals was Alex Hurst with 15 and second behind that was Hayden Campbell with 12.
Following on was another new category being Goal of the Season. If you were at Morpeth Town away you would have agreed that Adam Porters last minute equaliser was of sublime quality and deserved the award. This was presented by Director Georgina Chandler.
The next award was the Moorlands Radio Special Award, this was introduced last season from the Moorlands Sports team who tirelessly work to promote Leek Town and many other non league sports Clubs across the region. The team of Ian Corbishley, Rich Scott, Dave Stringer & Tony Walley, praised the recipient for their attitude, perseverance and versatility - the winner being Nathan Okome.
Our penultimate award was the Managements Player of the Season and was presented by Leek Town First Team Manager Josh Brehaut. Josh explained that there had been many candidates for the award but the winner was Liam Edwards. Josh explained that Liam had been pivotal in the Blues first season back in Step 3 and was widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the Division - well done Liam.
The final award of the evening was the Chris Hermiston Award, which recognised hard work from all the volunteers across the Club. Previous recipients had been Georgina Chandler, Ken Ashford, the Stewarding team and last years recipient and Club Photographer Jim Booth. Club Chairman Jon Eeles explained that this was a particularly important & valuable award as volunteers were the back bone of any non league Club and without them the Club could simply not function. The award was presented by Jim Booth and gratefully received by Conor Malkin. Conor joined the backroom staff in the closed season to become Kitman and has done a sterling job in his first season.
The evening drew to close over a few drinks and pizza before the last game of the season against Gainsborough Trinity.
