The Club are pleased to announce that popular defender Jack Sanders has joined Wigan Athletic on a professional contract.
Leek Town signed Sanders in November after impressing against the Blues playing for Charnock Richards, he then signed a contract in February 2019.
Sanders expressed his intentions to move following last season as the new league structure meant it was very difficult to play for Leek in the South East Division whilst he lived in Bolton. Although under contract the Club had a gentlemen's agreement in place to work with the player on a move if Leek were moved into a different league.
The fee and deal is undisclosed but is structured around incentives, appearances and includes a sell on clause.
Neil Baker, Leek Town Manager, commented "Jack is a great lad - young, athletic and will improve further in a professional Club, we wish him all the best for the future - we will keep tabs on his progress."
Jon Eeles, Chairman, added "I am delighted for Jack and the Sanders family, who in a short space of time have quickly became a part of our Club. The Club is proud to have played a part in his development and wish him all the best for the future.
This is the second player to have returned to professional football whilst playing for Neil at Leek, which is a great accolade for him, the football that is played and the way our Club is run. Non league football at this level is continually scouted and I would encourage any young players with aspirations to return to the professional game to play for a Step 4 Club, the connections Neil has in the professional game have played a large part in this also."
I am sure all Leek Town fans will join the Club in wishing Jack all the best for his future. Wigan Athletic have also recently joined the Professional Development league and play Colchester on 12 August.
