Playing away at the immaculate Silverlands in Buxton with a depleted squad of just 9 fit and available players the Under 15 girls battled to a much deserved away point at SK Vipers.
Playing on the first XI, full size, 3G pitch with 2 players light for the full game was always going to be a tough task for the girls but the teamwork and effort shown by all nine could not be faulted. Having to ask Tigs to play in goal due to Fran's illness she turned in an inspired performance and was without doubt the player of the match. In a tight first half Leek created a couple of goal opportunites of their own with fine individual efforts by Goose and Els both well saved by the Vipers keeper whilst at the other end of the pitch the Leek goal was not unduly troubled by the hosts.
The second half was a slightly different story and the Vipers laid siege to the Leek Town goal only for some inspired, sometimes last minute, defending from Hattie, Els, Tharine and Grace to keep the attackers at bay. The midfield three of Liz, Isabel and Goose all continued to work hard whilst Lucy B ploughed a lone furrow up front and understandably the Leek girls did start to flag a little. With about 20 minutes to go Vipers did get their noses in front with a fine finish from the edge of the box to the left hand corner giving the otherwise unbeatable Tigs no chance in goal.
But rather than capitulate Leek girls found some extra energy from somewhere and with 10 minutes won a free kick on the right hand side of the Buxton penalty area. Up stepped Hattie to arrow an unstoppable finish into the top right hand corner and draw us back level.
Leek continued to defend resolutely for the final 10 minutes without too many more scares and hold on for a truly remarkable draw; all thanks to an incedible team work ethic and a good amount of decent football.
