KICK OFF COUNTDOWN
Leek Town
deservedly claimed their first league victory since September on Tuesday, defeating Ashton United 2-0. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Louis Potts fired a stunning strike from outside the box. Debutant Tunde Owolabi then doubled the lead just 12 minutes into the second half with a composed finish. The Blues dominated most of the match, controlling possession and creating the better chances, while Ashton United looked toothless in attack. Tuesday also marked Leek Town’s debut on Clubber TV, making it a perfect start to their live broadcast journey.

Leek have also been in strong form in the FA Trophy this season. They most recently blitzed Bromsgrove Sporting 3-0 in the 1st round proper and now look forward to hosting Scarborough Athletic this Saturday.

Scarborough come into the match off the back of a 2-1 win over Curzon Ashton in step 2 of the non-league pyramid. Both sides saw red cards during the game, but Scarborough managed to score twice before losing a player, securing the three points despite Curzon Ashton’s efforts to level the scoring. Curzon did strike back eventually; however, it was too little too late as Scarborough saw out the match to emerge victorious.

How are they doing?
This season is The Seadogs 4th in the National League North and so far, it is looking to be their best yet. They currently sit 5th in the table on 29 points, 9 behind league leaders AFC Fylde. Scarborough have won 9 of their 16 games in the league however in their last 5 they have lost all but one. In their 4 losses they conceded 11 and scored just twice.

Borro’s biggest defeat came against South Shields where they let in 4 goals and failed to score themselves throughout the match. Aside from this recent spell The Seadogs have seemed dangerous almost every time they stepped out onto the pitch and have most recently shown that they can still be a threatening side for opponents to face.

Their Main Man?
Stephen Walker has been a key striker for Scarborough Athletic this season. Standing at 1.81 m, he’s a strong aerial threat. A product of Middlesbrough’s academy, he represented England at youth level, scoring six goals in nine games for the Under-19s. Notably he has had loan spells at MK Dons, Crewe, and Tranmere Rovers giving him a wide range of experience in the lower leagues of professional football.

After leaving the professional side of the game, Walker moved to West Auckland Town and Whitby before catching the eye of The Seadogs in February 2025. He quickly became a fan favourite and had even bagged a hat-trick against Marine AFC two weeks before the end of last season.

Primarily a midfielder, Walker excels at getting behind defences and finishing chances. He has 9 goals this season with a shot accuracy of 54.5%, making him the team’s main attacking threat. Despite his assist numbers remaining low, his performances are central to Scarborough’s campaign and could certainly attract interest from higher-level clubs if he keeps up his current form.

Their Gaffer?
Jonathan Greening, born in Scarborough in 1979, is the current manager of Scarborough Athletic and a former professional midfielder. He has enjoyed a distinguished playing career at clubs including Manchester United, where he took part in their magnificent treble winning season, Middlesbrough, where he went on to win the league cup in 2004 and West Bromwich Albion, becoming the club captain and a fan favourite.

This wealth of Premier League experience and competing at the highest levels of English football has certainly shaped his understanding of the game making him one of the strongest coaches in the division. Since taking charge of Scarborough Athletic in May 2021, he has led the club to promotion from the Northern Premier League Premier Division to the National League North and secured a contract extension through to 2027/28.

Known for his commitment to entertaining, attacking football, Greening emphasises discipline, continuous improvement, and building a strong connection between the club and its supporters. His local roots and professional experience bring both credibility and ambition to his management, shaping Scarborough Athletic into a team with identity and purpose.

Scarborough Athletic – have we met before?
The Blues and The Seadogs have met just three times in recorded history. Two draws which took place in the 2013/14 campaign as they played in the same league. Each of the contests resulted in a draw between the sides with the scores being 2-2 and 1-1. This leaves us with an average of three goals a game.

However the Blues famously beat the original Scarborough 2-0 in the FA Cup in 1990, this was before they were reformed as Scarborough Athletic - so we have a strong record against them.
