The Blues host National League North outfit Macclesfield FC this Tuesday at the F Ball Community Stadium following a 0-2 victory against Abbey Hulton United

First of all, we decided to reflect on the positive result, with a post-match interview with Ashley Potter who spoke with Josh Brehaut after the game .After getting questioned on his thoughts upon the game, Brehaut explained “ We had good tempo which is not easy in pre-season, especially on a difficult pitch, In the second half, we gained control and scored a few goals which was deserved after creating plenty of chances “

Focusing on the threat and chances created throughout the game, Josh replied with “ We didn’t score last saturday so spent some time on possession and building our quality in the final third, which was pleasing to see in the second-half as we created many opportunities and found the back of the net “

Asked when facing arguably the most difficult side of pre-season, how do you reflect on the positivity shown in the game this evening, Brehaut explained that “ Regardless of how the game goes, we are working through a programme which is a different process each game, Tuesday night will be a different type of game as we probably won’t see as much of the ball compared to our first two games, it will be a game we will look forward to“

Ahead of the game, we explored the Silkmen, including their record last season and facts evolving around them as a club. They come to the F Ball Community Stadium on the back of a 4-0 win against Cheadle Town in pre-season.

Meet the Man at the Helm - John Rooney
John was appointed Macclesfield manager on the 1st July 2025 after his retirement from football. The ex-attacking midfielder carries an abundance of experience with him, from playing for plenty of clubs around the UK and USA, including, Macclesfield FC, New York Red Bulls, Orlando City, Barnsley, Bury, Chester, Wrexham, Barrow, Stockport County and Oldham Athletic. After the successful career, Rooney then decided to switch to a managerial career where he has currently been with the Silkmen for over a year.

Throughout the 2025/26 campaign with Macclesfield FC, Rooney guided them into the play-offs after an excellent 4th placed position, however was unsuccessful into gaining promotion after a 3-1 loss to Kidderminster Harriers in the play-off semi final. In addition they had a terrific FA cup run where they got to the Fourth Round against premier-league side Brentford and also beat FA Cup holders Crystal Palace in the Third Round. He now enters his second season as Macclesfield manager.

National League North - 2025/26 Record
Throughout the 2025/26 season, The Silkmen achieved 4th place after reaching 79 points inside 46 games which led them to enter the play-offs.

In their first Play-off Quarter-Final, they faced Chester FC, where they managed to progress to the semi-final, and were two games away from promotion. However, their season came to an end at Aggborough Stadium, where Kidderminster Harriers beat them 3-1.

Their biggest win throughout the campaign was against Kidderminster Harriers, where they thrashed the side 5-1 on home soil.
Managing to score 15 goals last season in all competitions, Danny Elliot was the top goal-scorer for The Silkmen, followed behind by Paul Dawson with 14 goals, and D’Mani Mellor with 12 goals
