DO THEY MEAN US? AVRO FC
This Saturday, 6th April 3pm, sees your Champions (sounds good, doesn’t it?) head up to Avro FC for our penultimate away game of a memorable season. Based in the Limeside area of Oldham, they play at the Vestacare Stadium. Avro were excellent at The F. Ball Community Stadium earlier in the season and will provide a stern test again.

I know we say it on a weekly basis, but the management and coaching team and players hugely appreciate your support. You’ve often turned away games into home games, and we’d love to see you there again in numbers and fine voice on Saturday.

The True Blue Army will assemble at?
Avro FC is around 38 miles away, and there are a few routes that you can take depending on traffic on the day. Probably the best is via the A523 and M60, although other options include the A53 route, and the A556/M56/M60 route.

  • A523 through Macclesfield
  • Slight left toward Manchester Airport Eastern Link Rd/A555
  • Use any lane to turn slightly left onto Manchester Airport Eastern Link Rd/A555
  • Use the left 2 lanes to turn slightly left onto the A34 ramp to M60/Manchester
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Wilmslow - Handforth Bypass/A34
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on Wilmslow - Handforth Bypass/A34
  • At the roundabout, take the 1st exit and stay on Wilmslow - Handforth Bypass/A34
  • Continue to follow A34
  • Use the left lane to merge onto M60 via the ramp to Ring Rd (E & N)/Stockport/Sheffield/M67/Leeds/M62
  • Keep right to stay on M60
  • At junction 22, Use the left lane to take the A62 exit to M'cr city centre/Oldham
  • Slight left onto the ramp to Manchester Rd/A62
  • Use the left lane to turn slightly left to merge onto Manchester Rd/A62
  • Turn left onto Hollins Rd/A6104
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on Hollins Rd/A6104
  • Turn right onto Oak Rd
  • Go through 1 roundabout
  • Turn right onto Elm Rd
  • Turn left onto White Bank Rd

Parking: There is a car park at the ground and some on-street parking on White Bank Road and the surrounding streets. Parking for opponent players and officials is located in the stadium car park. Disabled parking is also available in the ground and a blue badge must be presented and displayed.

How are they doing?
Avro’s recent history is very impressive: They were promoted to Division One North of the North West Counties League in 2018, and their first season in the division saw them finish as runners-up, earning promotion to the Premier Division as one of the second placed clubs with the best points-per-game across the divisions. In 2022–23 they were runners-up in the Premier Division, qualifying for an inter-step play-off. They went on to beat Lincoln United 2–1 to earn promotion to Division One West of the Northern Premier League.
Avro currently sit in 11th place with 48 points from 34 games – and are handily placed 5 points from a play off place.

Their main man?
Kyle Hawley scored four goals at Trafford in their last game, so we will need to keep a close eye on Avro’s leading scorer on Saturday.

Their gaffer?
It was recently announced that Avro managers Alex Frost and Phil Edghill will be leaving the club at the culmination of this season due to extra work commitments caused by new jobs outside of the club. We wish them well.

6 Of The Best – six things you probably didn’t know about Avro FC…..

  1. The club was founded in 1936 at the Failsworth factory of British aircraft manufacturer Avro
  2. The club originally played at the Lancaster Club in Failsworth
  3. Avro FC moved to their current stadium in 2017. As part of the move, the ground was redeveloped, with a new artificial pitch and floodlights
  4. The Vestacare Stadium has also been home to the oval ball - Oldham R.L.F.C. have played there in recent years
  5. Avro’s record attendance was 688 vs Bury AFC in the West Counties League Premier Division in January 2023
  6. They have won the Manchester County Cup ten times in their history, the last one in 2017/18
