MATCH PREVIEW
RUSHALL OLYMPIC

Following a tough opening league fixture away at FC United of Manchester, the Blues focus now turns to our opening home fixture. An early season Tuesday evening fixture opens a week of two home games. Leek will be looking to put the 2-0 away loss behind them in the pursuit of a home win at the F.Ball Community stadium as we welcome our visitors Rushall Olympic.

Both teams will head into Tuesdays game on the search for vital points to give themselves and early season boost, especially as the games start to come thick and fast with five games left to play in this first month of the season.

Rushall Olympic

How are they doing?
The Pics collected their first point of the 25/26 campaign on opening day, a home tie against Warrington Rylands. Having been 1-0 up for a large period of the game, they conceded in the 51st to play out a 1-1 draw.

Their Main Man?
Rushall will be hoping that Liam McAlinden will provide them with the firepower that they need to have a good season. The 6’1 striker comes to the Pics with some serious pedigree, at 31 years old he has represented a host of football league teams. Most notably are his stints at Exeter City where he played 61 games and more recently representing Wrexham FC. The Striker scooped the Players Player award following the 24/25 campaign.

Their Gaffer?
Ian Long, A former Pics’ player, has gone on to become a well-respected manager on the local football scene for his work with Tividale, Alvechurch, Stourbridge and Walsall Wood where he has built teams that play attractive football, whilst also being well-organised and hard-working.

Rushall Olympic – Have we met before
For many Leek Town fans, Rushall Olympic will be a familiar name. The Walsall based club had beaten the Blues in back to back Staffordshire Senior Cup finals in the 22/23 and 23/24 season, albeit narrowly.
The Blues have taken on the Pics on 16 occasions dating back to 1992. Most game have come in Cup competitions apart from those between 2008/2011 where the teams shared the same league.

It is safe to say that Rushall have had Leek’s number over those 16 ties, with the Pics winning 12 and drawing 3, with the Blues only able to find 1 victory.

There have been 36 goals in total over the years, 27 of those goals being scored by Rushall.
XG for the game solely based on head to head meetings suggests 2.1 goals for this fixture.
