TRINITY BEAT THE BLUES

TRINITY BEAT THE BLUES

LEEK LOSE TO TUNTULWANA GOAL & ASSIST

It was a tale of two halves as Leek shaded the first with the much better chances but were left to rue not taking them as Gainsborough clinically converted two chances in the second half and managed the remainder of the game. Josh Brehaut freshened up the starting line up bringing Alex Hurst and Louis Potts into the starting lineup at the expense of Conor Heath and the injured Adam Porter.

The game started with Gainsborough on the offensive with Tuntulwana being central to most of their good work. As early as the 4th minute the created a chance as Tuntulwana was fouled 35 yards out as Leek cleared the ball. Mulhern stepped up to strike the ball which dipped over the wall and struck the outside of Vissers post, however he did look to have it covered.

Leek were forced into a change on 7 minutes when Stafford was forced to leave the field with a muscle injury and was replaced by Dickinson. The Blues began to hold their own and grow into the game but not before Preston combined with Horsham who shot from distance to clip the post again.

It was then Leeks turn to try their arm from distance as Lucas Weir progressed through the middle and let fly but did not trouble the keeper. Leek continued to press and retrieved the ball with a neat interchange between Hurst and Shenton, the pass to Potts put him through but the linesman flag was up for upside.

The continued pressure was awarded with a corner to Leek, Weir delivered a delightful curling ball which Robson tipped onto the bar for another corner. The next one was played short but cleared by Gainsborough.

Leek continued the good spell and on 34 minutes Hursts trickery resulted in an opening with the shot being cleared for another corner. Again it was played short and then back to Weir who floated the ball to the back post where Dickinson had ghosted in, with the goal gaping his header was directed wide.

Leek were dominating possession at this point with the high press, Hurst advanced from a mistake and perhaps should have shot but squared to Potts who was disposed with a good tackle from Offler. The resulting corner was worked again to Weir whose curling shot was just over hitting the roof of the net.

Gainsborough had one more effort from Preston as he shot from wide left to hit the side netting.

The referee indicated 2 minutes injury time as he drew the first half to a close.

GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY 0 - LEEK TOWN 0 HT

Leek started well and had their first chance on 47 minutes when Hurst from the left found Shenton in the middle who jinked and shot forcing a low save from Robson who parried to the left.

Gainsborough then fashioned their second corner of the game which was cleared for a throw with Hornshaw shooting from distance.

On 49 minutes the deadlock was broken and it was a long ball down the left flank to Mulhern who advanced and got past Meadowcroft to deliver a pacey ball across the area for the Tuntulwana to meet at the back post, giving Visser no chance.

Leek lost their composure for a short time and it perhaps should have been two as Tuntulwana paced down the right and knocked an early ball into Preston who blasted the ball over the bar when it was easier to hit the target.

On 59 minutes Leek had the ball in the back of the net when Weir picked our the run of Potts but he was deemed to have been offside and ruled out.

Gainsborough had another good spell and Leek changed personnel and shape by brining on Leigh for Dickinson and reverted to a back four with four in midfield. Gainsborough continued to press with Tuntulwana being in the thick of it on two occasions. A further substitution for the Blues was made on 70 minutes with Hurst making way for Heath.

Gainsborough were managing the game well with their noses in front but still looked dangerous on the attack. On 72 minutes it was Margetts chance to test Visser with a looping header which was tipped over the bar.

Leek made a further substitution on 74 minutes when Campbell came on for Shenton in an effort to get back in the game but on 81 minutes the game was put beyond them as Gainsborough scored a second.

It was Tuntulwana who received the ball from a Mulhern throw and delivered a really accurate cross to the near post area which was met by Parks who turned in the ball from close range..

Leek continued to work hard but with no reward, on 89 minutes Weir delivered another good corner which Ashton had to punch clear. The refereee indicated a further 4 minutes of added time and called time on preceedings as once again Gainsborough managed the game.

GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY 2 - LEEK TOWN 0 FT

So no reward for Leek despite some hard work on the road, but no disgrace to a very good Gainsborough Trinity side who will almost certainly make the play offs .

We return to home comforts on Saturday with the visit of Stockton Town - they dont get an easier !
