It was a wet Tuesday evening at Harrison Park for the visit of Kidsgrove Athletic, and the Blues broke their recent hoodoo with a Tim Grice brace to secure the victory 2-1.

The game was an edgy affair with both teams looking a little nervous and struggling to create chances. It was Leek who struck first on 8 minutes when a Jake Twyford freekick was only parried by the visitors keeper, and fell to Tim Grice who casually headed the ball into an empty net.

Both Bott and Twyford had half chances but the score remained unchanged, the game became littered with niggly freekicks as Kidsgrove grew more into the game. A delivery from the left on 40 minutes found Lee Williamson in the Blues box unmarked and he made no mistake to level the scores with a diving header.

The rain continued which hindered the quality of football, with neither side producing any end product. On 78 minutes a neat interchange of passing between Goode and Short found Grocott in midfield who played the ball to Grice, his shimmy wrong footed the Kidsgrove defender and his powerful shot went through the legs of Kieran Harrison.

Leek saw out the remainder of the game relatively untroubled, and the final whistle was greeted with rapturous applause from the Leek faithful.

The Blues focus now turns to the FA Cup where they will face AFC Wulfrunians away on Saturday 27 August.
