BAKER SCORES DECISIVE GOAL IN BANK HOLIDAY CLASH

Sheffield started the game with a very direct approach with the ball launched into the Blues half from deep positions. There was not much to report in the early part of the game until Louis Keenan swung in a lovely cross on 16 mins which caught the visitors defence out and also surprised Tim Grice who failed to connect. Within a few minutes Josh Agbozo delivered a ball from the right which Grice connected with but the header flashed past the post.

On 21 minutes Olly Harrison played a long ball over the top and Grice cooly slotted the ball under the advancing keeper to make the score 1-0. Leek continued to break the advancing play up in midfield and on 30mins a corner found Chris Baker who put his shot into the side netting.

On 44 minutes a poor kick from the Sheffield keeper fell to Aaron Bott who advanced and shot, the keeper partially redeemed himself with a save but the rebound fell to Jake Twyford who made no mistake to score.

The blistering heat was taking its toll on Leek and Sheffield were the better team in the early part of the second half. Their direct approach was rewarded on 64 mins when Coleman scored with his tap in from a corner that Leek failed to deal with 2-1.

On 67 mins Sheffield were level with a near carbon copy of the earlier goal as once again a corner was not cleared and Newsham made sure from close range with his head 2-2.

Blues boss Neil Baker, acted quickly on 71 minutes with a double substitution bringing Jessy Bavanganga on for Josh Agbozo (who had earlier been booked) and Rob Stevenson for Aaron Bott. On 76 minutes Lewis Short was introduced for Jake Twyford.

It was that substitution that proved to be decisive as Short played a neat one-two and crafted a floated cross to the far post who found Chris Baker unmarked, he duly obliged by scoring.

There was still time for Blues fans to feel nervous as Sheffield continued to bombard the Leek defence with direct balls, but the Blues held on to record their 4th successive victory - despite 6mins of added time.
