Leek Town remain top of Staffordshire County League with a 4-2 victory away at Chasetown

Leek Town started strongly with both Alice Naden and Lucy Kelsall having shots saved by the Chasetown keeper. Becky Rothwell and Elise Skelding were having a lot of the ball down each flank and providing good balls in for the Leek forwards to run on to.

Chasetown then went on the attack and Isabel Wretham combined with Rosie Atkinson to clear the danger. Katie Maya then put Alice Naden through who shot just wide.

Chasetown then split the Leek defence with a good pass and the forward shot past the Leek keeper to open the scoring. Shortly after the restart only a good save from Leek keeper Hannah Austin prevented Chasetown from increasing their lead.

Leek then began to play as they can with Emma Smith combining well with Elise Skelding on the right and Amber Stanway along with Katie Maya taking control in midfield. On the next attack Becky Rothwell pounced on a rebound from the keeper to equalise.

Shortly after the restart Leek were attcking down the left again with Becky Rothwell full of energy running the length of the field but unable to get a cross in to the box. The ball was again won by Katie Maya in midfield who passed to Alice Naden on the edge of the box who produced a fantastic looping shot over the keeper to put Leek 2-1 in the lead.

Leek then won two corners that were excellently taken by Isabel Wretham but leek could not direct the ball towards the goal.

Lucy Kelsall then ran past two Chasetown defenders and shot just wide of the target

Half time Chasetown 1-2 Leek Town.

The second half started with Chasetown on the attack and they eventually won a corner from which a very powerful header hit the back of the Leek net to even things up at 2-2 again.

For the next few minutes Chasetown were on the offensive with Leek captain Charlotte Bromley having to make some excellent interceptions and clearances. Chasetown then attacked down the right but were again stopped this time by Mollie Shaw. Amber Stanway then picked up the ball in midfield and rounded two players and then played the ball in to Alice Naden who turned and got into a shooting position to beat the Chasetown keeper and make it 3-2 to Leek.

After scoring Alice Naden had to come off with a back injury but was replaced by Chloe Gerrity who provided some very good touches and was very competitive up front.

Becky Rothwell still full of running then ran the length of the pitch again cutting in for a shot which was saved by the keeper.

Chasetown were now struggling to cope with the speed of Lucy Kelsall and Elise Skelding who were both still full of running.

On the next Leek attack the ball came to Elise Skelding and she calmly slotted the ball into the net to make it 4-2 to Leek.

A great game between two very good teams.
