An outstanding first half by Leek Town to make it 3-0 at the break and should have been more to make the game out of reach for Burton Albion.

Third placed Leek Town entertained 2nd placed Burton Albion in this Staffordshire Women's League fixture at Harrison Park.
The game started at a fast pace with Leek Town having the first clear cut chance from Elise Skelding which was saved by the Burton Keeper. Burton then tried to play through the centre of the Leek Town defence but Charlotte Bromley made an excellent interception and the danger was cleared by Emma Smith.
Amber Stanway and Kirsty Ryder were very competitive in Central midfield breaking up play and setting up opportunities for the Leek Town Attack.
The ball then fell to Lucy Kelsall who battled to get the ball across to Elise Skelding and her run found Katie Maya who fired home to open the the scoring for Leek. From the Burton restart Isabel Wretham won the ball back and supplied Becky Rothwell who again found Katie Maya who went past two players before hitting a shot from 20 yards which beat the Burton keeper to make it 2-0 and only 9 minutes gone.
Burton then went on to the attack and a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area was excellently saved by Leek keeper Hannah Austin.
Amber Stanway then had an excellent run through the Burton defence but her shot went just over the bar. It was then Elise Skelding who forced the keeper to make a good save on Leek's next attack.
Leek were now having another good spell and forced a corner. The corner was cleared but went straight back to the taker Isabel Wretham who this time picked out Elise Skelding and she finished well to put Leek Town 3-0 up on 30 minutes.
Leek then introduced Emily Boon and Stacey Banks and both played some good pass and move football with Stacey Banks forcing the keeper into a good save.
Leek left back Mollie Shaw then had an excellent run almost the full length of the pitch and produced another chance which Leek Town could not quite finish off.

Half Time Leek Town 3-0 Burton Albion

Leek Town knew that they should have finished Burton Albion off in the first half so we're prepared for an early onslaught by them.
It was Leek Town in fact that manufactured the first good chance when Katie Maya put in Becky Rothwell for a shot on goal which was again saved by the Burton keeper who had kept them in the game. Following this both Stacey Banks and Emily Boon had attempts on goal but did not work the Burton keeper.
Burton then broke free and scored to bring it back to 3-1 which gave them a lift. They attacked twice more down the central area and were kept out first by Emma Smith and then by Charlotte Bromley. On the next attack Burton were awarded a questionable penalty which they converted to bring the score back to 3-2. Burton then went for the equaliser and Leek Town's defensive four of Wretham, Smith, Bromley and Shaw worked very hard to keep them out.
Leek then got back on top with Elise Skelding and Lucy Kelsall both producing good play down the flanks with Kirsty Ryder and Amber Stanway working hard in the central area. Katie Maya had a shot near the end which went just wide of the goal.
