The Ladies progressed through the opening round of the County Challenge Cup with a 7-2 win over Stafford Town at Evans Park.

Leek Town started well and had two good efforts early on from Emily Boon and Kim Sheldon which were wide of the target. Leek were taking time adjusting to the 3G surface but eventually got their passing game going with some good moves.

Kim Sheldon then won the ball in midfield and found Lacey Smith who held the ball up well before supplying Jules Kendrick and she managed to get a shot away which the keeper saved.

Stafford then had a half chance but fired over the bar. Alice Painter down the right then got a good ball into the Stafford box which Izzy Wretham narrowly failed to reach.

Just after the half hour mark a good run from Wretham down the right was met by Kim Sheldon and she found the net to put Leek 1-0 up, this was the 17 year olds first goal for the senior side and she has been quite impressive since coming into the team.

Five minutes later Sheldon made the assist finding Lacey Smith on the edge of the box and she produced a great strike for the goal of the game beyond the keeper high into the corner.

Just before half time another chance for Stafford which Keeper Hannah Austin saved well.

Half time Stafford Town Ladies 0-2 Leek Town Ladies.

Stafford got a foothold back in the game when a striker got away and scored for the hosts within 5 minutes of the restart.

Leek now with a much more attacking formation soon got back on top when Kim Sheldon found Elise Skelding in the box and she found the net past the diving keeper.

7 minutes later the same pair combined again and a good shot from Skelding to make it 4-1 to Leek. Stafford were now finding it difficult to penetrate the Leek defence which looked solid. Emma Smith then had a good run through from midfield and got a shot away which narrowly missed the target.

Lacey Smith then holding the ball up well again and a good pass to Skelding for her to complete her hat trick in 20 minutes.

On 75 minutes Mollie Shaw found Wretham down the left and she used her pace to get away and slot past the keeper for Leek's 6th goal.

9 minutes later Lacey Smith found Wretham again and she beat the keeper for her 2nd and Leek's 7th.

Stafford kept battling though and scored a good consolation goal in the last moments.
