An anxious warm-up rejigging a starting 11, but after a tour of Melton, Mir arrived just in time and Ross was merely doing laps of the car park in order to find a space! An even start to the game, Melton had good spells of possession in their own half, breaking at speed into attack. Leicester held possession higher up the field and were probably shading the game until a defensive mistake gave the ball away on the 25 allowing Melton to open the scoring - Jim got a good touch to the shot and with a bit more bounce it might have gone wide of the far post, but it was not to be. (It might not even have rolled in if it hadn't been wind-assisted by the cold westerly gale which didn't let up all game!)
A good spell from Leicester eventually resulted in Jas and Rob working the ball through to Pami to finish with a well hit shot. Further pressure from LHC was nearly rewarded when Mahesh hit the post, but it was to remain 1-1 to halftime.
The second half was an exaggerated version of the first - even more Leicester possession and territorial advantage, but no result. Further dangerous breaks from Melton, two of which required excellent saves from Jim to keep the scores level. Leicester came close a few times, but failed to convert any PC chances and in the dying seconds of the game Pami could have wrapped it up, but the effort went wide right. Injury worries continue to cause problems; Andy, Pami and Ross all suffering decreased mobility, Mir twisting a knee but hopefully OK for the next game and if Callum hadn't been out with a thigh strain there might have been more goals on the scorecard.
Rob had another good game stepping into centre-mid. Patrick and Gregor made good links down the left and the right and both of them worked tirelessly to support attack and back to defend. Jack had some great runs at the Melton defence - it would have been great to see a left-back score a goal whilst playing at centre-forward!
No cards all game, both sides enjoyed a tight, competitive fixture and for those that could stay, there was a chip butty and shelter form the wind in a nice warm clubhouse!
