A good team display; slightly reorganised but Rob having a quality game in midfield and Mark playing well in the back four, Jim keeping the scoreline more respectable with some quality saves and Pami bagging a late consolation goal which was thoroughly deserved.
Some defensive errors assisted R&EW goalscoring, but a deserved victory by a well organised and fit team - significantly more youthful and full of running! Some early pressure brought no result in the opening stages before conceding the first goal on a swift break, from then on R&EW were more dominant. A disputed second goal -only the umpire didn't think the ball had crossed the backline and the forward wasn't owning up- then a quality third goal well-finished on the far post. Smothers, kicks and deflections from Jim, a goal-line save from Mark and surviving a number of PCs kept the score to 3-0 at the half.
Every player played their part, subs rotating to refresh the line-up. Although 5-0 down by the late stages, a great run by George gained a PC which Pami converted after beating an on-rushing player.
Rugby&EW6 are SE3 Division Winners, having completed their fixtures (W17 D2 L1) and four points ahead of both Northampton Saints5 and Coalville4 who are tied on 49pts. There has been some changes in the table, an earlier MktH 3-3 N.Saints game appears to have been awarded as 3-0 to Saints - apparently after MktH fielded ineligible players. MktH have been deducted a further 3pts so, despite winning this week, they are still in fifth position and LHC retain fourth spot by a single point.
It looks likely that both Saints and Coalville will win their last fixtures against Tamworth and Nuneaton respectively and unless Coalville score about thirty goals, Saints will finish second!
