Return match to remember

Who saw this coming?

"Well, well, well — what a performance from Leicester United!"

After that humbling 8-0 defeat in the first fixture, Leicester United came into this return match with a point to prove — and boy, did they deliver at Oakfield Park! From the off, they were pressing hard, moving the ball with confidence, and — crucially — playing as a team.

The midfield trio of Oliver, Isaac, and Jacob were absolutely running the show early on, spraying passes left and right, linking up beautifully with Osas and Read up front. It was all Leicester — and it didn’t take long for that pressure to pay off. Just six minutes in — Oliver threads a lovely ball through to Osas, and he makes no mistake. Clinical. That’s exactly the kind of start they needed.

But Leicester weren’t done there. Heads up, still pressing, still hunting for more. A couple of missed opportunities — Isaac and Read both going close — but you could feel it coming. And sure enough, just three minutes later — Osas again! He pounces on a loose ball, takes a touch, and bang — it’s in the back of the net. A lovely brace for Osas, and Leicester looking absolutely dominant.

Now, this is where the hard work came in. For the next 20 minutes, it was all Leicester. Charlie at the back — solid as a rock — breaking up any hint of a Braunstone counter. Corey shifting into midfield, pressing hard, and pushing forward to create chances. Isaac and Jacob were pulling the strings in midfield — calm, controlled, and composed. And Oliver? On fire down that wing — driving forward, beating his man time and time again, and whipping in some wicked crosses.

And then — oh, what a moment! Leicester win the ball back, work it beautifully through midfield — Isaac to Jacob, Jacob out wide to Oliver — he floats a teasing cross into the box, the keeper gets a hand to it, but it bounces off Dexter and rolls over the line! Bit of fortune, sure — but you make your own luck when you’re playing like this. 3-0 Leicester — and fully deserved.

So, into halftime with Leicester United flying — a complete turnaround from that first fixture. Confidence, cohesion — they were looking like a different team altogether.

Second half kicks off — and Leicester pick up right where they left off. Passing it around the park with confidence — Isaac and Jacob controlling the tempo, Flynn and Dexter getting involved down the flanks, and Oliver still causing chaos out wide. And then — a moment of pure comedy for Braunstone. Ball floated over the top, it catches the back of a Braunstone defender — wrong-footing the keeper — and nestles in the back of the net. 4-0 Leicester — and the Braunstone players could hardly believe it.

But Leicester weren’t done yet. The next 18 minutes were a masterclass in control. Corey and Charlie mopping up any Braunstone breaks, Isaac and Oliver combining beautifully to switch play from side to side. Read had a couple of pops at goal, Osas went close too, but Jack at the back — cool as you like — making the saves when needed. Leicester just toying with Braunstone at times, working the ball around confidently.

Then came the cherry on top. 62 minutes on the clock — Leicester pressing high, winning the ball back in the final third. Osas drives into the box — shot saved! It bounces out to Read — he fires it in, it takes a wicked deflection off the defender — and it’s in! 5-0 Leicester United — an absolute rout.

The final few minutes were all about game management. Leicester happy to pass it around, keeping possession, frustrating Braunstone. Jacob nearly added a sixth after a lovely through ball from Isaac, and Oliver had one last darting run down the wing that almost set up Dexter — but the final whistle blew with Leicester United claiming an emphatic and well-deserved 5-0 victory.

And a lot of that came down to Dexter. He was playing an absolute worldy in midfield — calm, composed, and completely in control. Every time he got the ball, he knew exactly what to do with it — short passes to keep the tempo, long balls to stretch the play — it was like he had a map of the pitch in his head.

And the standout performer? Oliver Wingfield — absolutely electric down that wing, creating chances, beating defenders, and pulling the strings all game long. A Man of the Match performance if ever there was one.

What a response from Leicester United — from 8-0 down to a 5-0 win. That’s football for you — and that’s how you make a statement!
