Dragons hit top gear

Sunday 30th October 2016

Leigh U14's Dragons 61 v Heaton Moor 5

Leigh Dragons entertained Heaton Moor on Sunday in what was expected to be a closely fought contest with both sids boasting numerous Manchester DPP players in their respective squads.

What unfolded was a display of enormous power, strength, speed and skill from the entire Leigh squad, and with a huge improvement in winning turnover ball, the Dragons were rampant.

Tries came thick and fast, with the virtually unstoppable and destructive centre partnership of Tom B (4) and Jack T (3) claiming 7 tries between them. The magnificent Danny E, at prop, went the full length of the field showing an incredible turn of pace for a big fella after a superb turnover from Joe M on his own line. The scoring was completed by the hugely impressive Tyler B, who since his switch from RL has shown outstanding qualities on both attack and defence. Jack M converted 7 from 8 and Leon M 1 from 1.

But that is only half the story. The entire team worked incredibly hard and the forward pack worked tirelessly to secure the ball on attack and created 6 turnovers in the game, something which is currently being worked hard at in training.

The backline was fearsome, with Fin T, Jack M and Ikey H pulling the strings at various stages as half backs, the outside backs and full back Ben T ran their opposition ragged.

An outstanding display which bodes well for the next two weeks, two huge cup games v Didsbury (A) and LSH (H).

We need to keep our feet on the ground and keep working hard as nothing comes easy at this level. But to think we are only scratching the surface of the potential of this team is exciting for us all.

Special mentions this week could go to anyone in the squad but Ryan C carried the ball and defended as well as he has done for a long time and Harry J put in a sterling shift from the bench and demonstrated his huge improvement in recent weeks.

Keep it up fellas, well done.
