Blues left devastated to go down to a late Tamworth goal

Leiston fell to a cruel defeat on Saturday at the hands of Tamworth as they failed to see out the match to gain another valuable point.

In a match sponsored by GODBOLD PROPERTIES and with BARRY SPALL kindly donating the match ball, Stuart Boardley brought new signing Rory McKeown into the starting eleven.

On an extremely hot day (there were two drinks break in the first half), Leiston contained Tamworth for much of the first period. New recruit McKeown, who played for Warrington Town last year and has also played for Kilmarnock, shot over the crossbar after just two minutes. A good move six minutes later involving Kyle Hammond, Rhys Henry, Matt Blake and Rob Eagle saw Byron Lawrence fire wide of the goal. Tamworth put balls into the penalty area, but Leiston were clearing their lines. Jake Jessup punched clear a corner while Jordan Clement headed over as the half came to an end with little end product from both sides.

The Blues began the second period brightly and defender Harry Knights had a header scrambled off the line while Jerry Kamanzi glanced a header off target and the same player shot at Jasbir Singh just seconds later. Clement got in for Tamworth’s first sight of goal in the half but Jessup saved with his legs. Leiston took the lead on the hour mark. A long Jessup kick found Byron Lawrence on the left and his strike was pushed away well by Singh before RHYS HENRY slotted home the loose ball. Both teams made changes to try and dictate the match but after a lean period of no attempts, the away side levelled in the 76th minute. JORDAN CLEMENT turned just outside the box to curl a great shot into Jessup’s bottom right hand corner. Both sides tried to win the match, sub Parrondo letting fly but Singh gathered his shot, while Daniel Creaney headed against the top of Jessup’s bar from close range. However, in the 92nd minute, Tamworth’s corner wasn’t dealt with by the home defence and DANIEL CREANEY bundled the ball home. It was harsh on Leiston.
There was hardly no time for the Blues to get back in the contest as ref Rob Whitton brought an end to proceedings.

Leiston face Needham Market at Bloomfield on Monday as they still look for a first win of the season.
