Lenzie travelled to unbeaten league leaders GHK on Saturday knowing they has to play to all of their strengths if they were to take something out of the game. A number of key missing personnel added to the scale of their task but full credit to the players and coaching staff for their efforts and excellent play for periods of the game.
From the start GHK put Lenzie under pressure however Lenzie sustained their efforts and worked their way into the game with Williams, McNeish and McKenzie showing up well. GHK opened the scoring and set a pattern of play when their scrum half Aird counter attacked with pace and set Robertson free to score and add the conversion.
It was now Lenzie's turn to apply pressure and Sutherland, Brett and Scouller forced several penalties allowing Scouller to convert to bring the score to 7 - 3.
Lenzie competed well in the scrum, Linotype and ruck with their backs gaining good ground through the middle however they could not compete with the speed of GHK who counter attacked at every opportunity to their credit.
With the score 28-3 at half time in GHKs favour Lenzie continued to take the game to GHK with Baldman at Stand off and Patterson at Scrum half gaining some control. Brambles Picken nearly had an assist when he kept Condie occupied however Small and McDermott could not force the try.
No complaints from Lenzie with the win for GHK who moved the ball well and always supported the ball carrier in a game that was well refereed by Mr Alan Campbell.
Player of the day for Lenzie was the outstanding Chris Patterson.
Lenzie are at home next week to Allan Glens with a 2pm ko
