Annan 28--25 Lenzie. Travelling support rewarded with entertaining game but Annan just sneaked the win with a last minute penalty.

Annan 28 - 25 Lenzie

This bottom of the league encounter was settled in the final minute of the match with the visitors unlucky to be on the losing side; a draw would have been a fair reflection of the days action.

Lenzie kicked off with the wind on their backs and had the best of the opening exchanges. Dan Scoullar opened the scoring with a penalty on 5 minutes after good passing from McCrae and Morrison released McBride on the wing with only desperate defence keeping him out. The scores were level 6 minutes later after the lenzie defence was judged offside. This spurred the home side on and the hosts had the best of the play for the next 10 minutes.

Lenzie worked hard to get back in to the match and got their reward with McWilliams brushing defenders aside to power over the line after a nice switch move with Morrison. Scoullar added the extras. Annan upped the intensity and only fine cover defence from Nisbet McWilliams and Paton preserved the visitors lead. Lenzies defence was however breached on 22 minutes. Annan mounted a sustained attack on the lenzie line and scored a fine try in the corner after a big miss pass. The conversion was slotted to take the score to 10-10. An exchange of penalties brought the score to 13-13 and both teams now focused on playing for territory. Nisbet broke for lenzie on 35 minutes and was crudely taken out off the ball after his kick ahead. Lenzie opted to kick for the corner and the decision was justified as Letford linked with Williams to power McNeish over to score. Scoullar again added the extras to take the half time score 20-13 to the visitors.

Annan Drew first blood in the second half after a quick tap penalty and good passing released the winger to score near the posts but the conversion was missed. Both teams were now playing good open rugby to try to exert dominance with the Annan kicking game causing the lenzie defence problems. A kick through was well chased up and Annan crossed the lenzie line to take the lead on 58 minutes wit he conversion scored. Lenzie reacted positively and good patient build up play released Paton who sold a nice dummy and dived over to level the scores at 25 each. The final stages of the match were a fiery and passionate affair but it was Annan who celebrate the win after a kickable was awarded in the dying moments.

Lenzie can hold their heads high after this performance with every player showing commitment to the cause. Next week lenzie will be hoping for an upset away to GHK.
