Brian King's Round Up...

Tom Patten16 Feb 2009 - 12:16

See how the rest of the Hellenic league fared this weekend - Saturday 14th February.

FA Vase

The Hellenic League interest, member club wise, ended at Lowestoft Town as Premier Division leaders Hungerford Town suffered a 4-3 defeat, after extra time, having played most of the second half and extra time with only ten men.

The ?Crusaders? took the lead after just three minutes with a goal from Pete Macklin. The lead was doubled by Ian Concannon in the 10th minute but Dale Cockerill pulled a goal back midway through the half.

Hungerford went down to ten men early in the second period when they had a player sent off for a second yellow card offence by a referee who was best described as ?over zealous? and unable to talk with players. Despite this setback Tom Fila put Hungerford in the driving seat in the 78th minute but two goals from Russ Stock in the 84th and 90th minutes took the tie to extra time. That man Stock netted the winner halfway through extra time to end an entertaining and hard fought tie.

Premier Division

None of the top four were in League action as Hungerford Town exited the FA Vase tie losing 4-3 at Lowestoft. The anticipated ?Match of the Day? between Shortwood United and Witney United fell to the weather as did Ardley?s match at Abingdon Town.

Almondsbury Town blitzed six past Wantage Town who replied with a goal from Ellis Langford. Kane Ingram (left) netted a hat trick with Jay Cia scoring just before the end of each half with Richard Kear also scoring.

Reading Town put eight past Shrivenham with James Clark (right) netting four, Aaron Parfitt netted in each half after Luka Riccio had opened the scoring in the 2nd minute. Graham Lewis contributed his customary goal scored in the 19th minute.

Kidlington took on local neighbours Old Woodstock Town and suffered a 2-0 defeat for the second time in three weeks, having been dumped out of the League Challenge Cup in January. Woodstock?s goals were both scored by John Mills

Two relegation matches saw Flackwell Heath beat Milton United 5-1 with Ben Chadbone scoring twice and Riccardo Cannon (below) notching a hat trick. The basement battle saw Bicester Town edge Harrow Hill in a nine goal thriller. Paul Manns put the ?Hillians? ahead with an 8th minute penalty equalised by Ben Williams. Bicester went in front in the 39th minute with an unfortunate own goal and extended the lead on the hour through Matt Blenford. An Edward Weyman penalty two minutes later was followed by an equaliser from Tom Fletcher with ten minutes left but John Curtis netted the winner with five minutes left.

Division One West

Six from eight fixtured matches were called off leaving just two in the One West program. Inconsistent Headington Amateur?s faced promotion chasing Wootton Bassett Town at Barton Road. Bassett took a first half lead with a Ryan Banks goal n the 23rd minute. Amateur?s came out refreshed for the second half and leveled in the 51st minute with a goal from Sean Jacobs. Amateurs went ahead seven minutes later through Benji Cuff but the effervescent Sean Terry restored parity for Bassett in the 72nd minute.

Division One East

There was plenty of action in One East with just two matches falling to the weather.

Ascot United looking to take the title and promotion faced Eton Wick at the Racecourse and ran out easy winners 3-1. First half goals from Phil Boddy in the 6th minute and an Andy Lunn goal in the 12th minute put Ascot in control at the break. Nick Curtis added a third in the 65th minute with Troy Richardson grabbing a late consolation.

Second placed Wokingham & Emmbrook also had a home match beating Rayners Lane 4-2. Neil Fyfield opened the scoring for the ?Lane after twelve minutes but Richard Bland netted to level in the 19th. Sam Whiting put the home side ahead at the break but five minutes into the second half Juan Carlos Camberio equalised. Bland netted his second in the 53rd minute and Whiting scored his second for the 4-2 win on the hour.

Binfield, with five matches in hand entertained Kintbury Rangers. Two first half goals secured the points as Gary Sargeant scored in the 15th minute and Joel Havermans got the second ten minutes from the break.

Newbury and South Kilburn shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Faraday Road. Charlie Hine put the London team ahead a minute before the break but Kalief Madden equalised five minutes after the break.

Englefield Green Rovers beat a below par Bisley Sports 3-0, Tommy Hedges got the first in the 17th minute and Ben Whatford added a goal in each half.

Finchampstead won 2-0 at home to bottom club Launton Sports who have seen a massive player change around since Kevin Poole was installed as manager. The goals were scored in the last 20 minutes through Rob Goldney, 70th minute, and Danny Isaiew a minute from time.

Penn & Tylers Green went down 2-0 at home to Chinnor, who are having their best season since joining the Hellenic League. Ryan Davis put Chinnor ahead in the 52nd minute and Adam Stallwood netted the second in the 77th minute.
