Every Monday and Wednesday we meet another member of the Letcombe squad. Today it is the turn of one of our newest signings who is establishing himself as a key man at Bassett Road....
Sam Dickens joined Letcombe in pre-season having finished university in Bath. He played some reserve friendlies before making his league debut for the club in the 1-0 defeat against Hook Norton.
Sam initially played on the wing but has since dropped back to play left-back and has played his part in some promising defensive showings this year. He also played in our first away league win for over two years, the 2-0 victory away at Wantage Town Reserves.
He looks a solid number 3 and he gave us some brilliant answers to our questions! Lets Introduce Sam Dickens:
PERSONAL
Full Name: Sam Dickens
Age: 23
Position: Defender
Previous Clubs: Oxford United, Milton United, Didcot Town
Job: Reminding Swindon fans we did the double over them in the 2011–12 season. Other than that I’m actively seeking employment.
Favourite TV Programme: Entourage
Favourite Film: The Raid: Redemption
Favourite Food: Pizza
Favourite Drink: I’ll probably get a bit of stick for this but I do like a Gin and Tonic. I also play bridge and knit little jumpers for cats.
FOOTBALL
Team Supported:Oxford United
Proudest Football Achievement: Getting to the First Round Proper of the FA Youth Cup with Didcot Town.
Coloured boots or black boots? Coloured.
The professional player I am most like is: Premiership new boy Marcos Rojo
The best game I have ever seen live is: Club game between Atletico Nacional vs Millonarios in Colombia after this year’s World Cup. Atmosphere was a little bit better than that down the Kassam Stadium and Nacional won 5-0
The best piece of footballing advice I have ever been given is: If you don’t shoot, you won’t score. Bit obvious that one though.
LETCOMBE FC
Do you have a pre-match routine? No, I’m not the superstitious type.
Who is the best dressed player in the Letcombe dressing room? A lot of the lads have been saying Clarky but it’s hard to tell who pulls off the team tracksuit the best.
What about the worst dressed? This is a hard one because I haven’t been around for that long. However I have known Des for a while now and he must have had those Reebok Classics since I first played for his Vale of White side over 10 years ago! A solid choice of footwear nonetheless.
Who is the loudest player before a match? Captain Stoney
Who is the funniest member of the Letcombe squad? It’s a close one between Jack Hamblin and Adam Claydon.
If you were going on a night out, which three member of the Letcombe squad would you take and why: I’ll go with the three mentioned above. But I’d have to check first that one of them knows where to get good pizza from for afterwards. And Stoney wouldn’t be allowed to choose the club because his music choice is terrible!
Any other business
I don’t actually play bridge or knit catwear. Sorry ladies.
So there we have it - thanks Sam for answering our questions! We have to say, we would love to see him order a Gin and Tonic in the Club House after a game! Another player will be under the spotlight on Wednesday.
