Letham Afc 3-1 Luncarty ASC

Today we welcomed luncarty to the acres in league business where we were the only fixture to go ahead in Perthshire due to the freezing conditions. In a tense first half where we were not at our usual tempo at all we went 1-0 after 21 minutes when a Mark Harvey shot was blocked by the elbow of the Luncarty defender, stonewall penalty and Mark Shaw slammed home the penalty. In 36 minutes Luncarty equalised when good play from their right winger saw him cross to the Luncarty attacker who produced a smart flicked finish to score.

Into the second half and we were all looking to raise the tempo and after just 2 minutes of the restart Gary Collier clipped the crossbar with a free kick. We made it 2-1 on 56 minutes when Sean Ferrie collected the ball near the right touch line and sent a great effort over the keeper and into the top corner. This was the goal we needed and it was one way traffic now, the Luncarty keeper pulling off a couple of great saves and Luncarty defended well to keep us out. We grabbed the vital goal to make it 3-1 on 79 minutes when good work from Lewis Allan down the right saw him cross for Michael Ramsay to head home. Just minutes later good work at the bye line from Jamie Ayton saw the defender pull him down and from the resulting penalty Gary Collier smashed it off the top of the bar and out of play.

We ground out a good win today in freezing conditions. After a poor first half for us where Luncarty probably just shaded it we were a much improved side second half creating lots of chances and our keeper having no saves to make. This could prove to be a vital 3 points in the chase for the league title.
