The Warriors kicked off into the face of a stiff breeze against a bit and strong Scorpions side.

As anticipated, the first 15 minutes was a bruising encounter with strong running and crunching tackles from both sets of forwards. Playing with the strong wind behind them, Blackpool repeatedly kicked deep for territory but Andy Robinson was having a superb game at fullback and was returning the ball with interest.

On the back of these good transitions, Leyland began to make inroads into the Scorpions defence and Dave Lonsdale hit a great line to squeeze in between defenders to score, with Stewart McLean converting. A few minutes later, the Warriors again went to the right edge and once more Lonsdale was able to step inside the sliding defence and score, with Scott Low converting.

Leyland continued to benefit from their speed around the play the ball and with Blackpool being pulled up several times for high tackles, they were soon back in a good position and a smart cut-out pass put Si Dempsey in space and he spun out of a tackle to score, Low converting again.

It was the Warriors who then gave away back to back penalties, resulting in Blackpool scoring a converted try from close range to keep them in touch. On the next set, Leyland forced a turnover and quick hands from the scrum fed Tommy Gallagher who brushed off his marker to score, making it 22-6 to the visitors at half-time.

The second half started with a rejuvenated Blackpool pack throwing everything at Leyland and they were rewarded when they forced an error and were able to work their way to the Warriors' posts and crash over for a converted try. Undeterred, Leyland stuck to their game plan, moving the ball to keep Blackpool's forwards on their toes and when Dan Horridge sliced through, McLean was in support to score, with Low converting.

McLean then turned provider with a smart shift play putting him into space and he fed Adam Bee who crossed out wide. Leyland were firmly in control of the tempo of the game and a superb offload from Sam Biggs finished with McLean going under the posts and converting his own try.

When Leyland again got within sight of Blackpool's line it was Low who dummied his way over to score, with McLean again on target, before more smart passing from the Warriors saw Gallagher add his second try of the game.

The Warriors continued to move the ball well and despite squandering a couple of chances, they did add a further try when a long ball found Dempsey in support to go over untouched and he became the fourth Leyland player to get a brace of tries, with Low converting again.

Blackpool's effort was faultless throughout, despite being outmatched for pace and they worked an overlap out wide to score the final try of the game, with Leyland running out 54-16 winners.
