A world class catch by Jake Broadbent was the highlight of the seconds excellent shield win at Hanging Heaton.

The home team took first use of a true wicket and the opening five overs told little of the drama to follow.

Then, a full ball from Shoaib Hassan was hit over extra cover and, seemingly, for at least three runs down to the bottom boundary.

Broadbent had other ideas and, chasing back over his head, he made ground but twisting and turning he still had yards to make up. He then dived forwards full length, down the hill, to snare a simply stunning catch.

It sparked a well drilled performance from everyone, with other great catches following from Chrissy Dyer, Jack Booth and Sam Gardner.

All the bowlers played their part with Gardner claiming one wicket, Hassan one, Asad one and the always excellent Mark Whiley three classy dismissals. Mark has performed consistently down the years for the seconds and his positive attitude and team ethic always getting a deserved reward.

The innings was finished off by a fantastic performance from that man Broadbent who bowled with excellent control to pick up a second team career best of 4-6. A top effort all round.

After a solid start, the reply never looked in doubt with Jack Booth seeing off the new ball with Michael Brooke. After both fell, it was left to, that man again!, Broadbent to see the team home with an enterprising 27 not out. He was supported by a well drilled David Knight who played sensibly in support.

A briliiant display and a day to remember. All eleven players played their part. Huge thanks to Steve Hartley, Kev Booth, Mark Whiley and Jack Booth for playing at short notice.

And a mention to Jordan Pickles for helping out in the scoreboard. Cheers Jordy.
