Two 1-0 wins for 1st team & Reserves wraps up a fantastic February
Saturday 22nd February 2025… CMAL Premier Division South
Linby Colliery 1 Arnold Town 0….. Attendance 95
Linby rounded off a fantastic February, a Semi Final win , and three league wins . With a big player unavailability issue, regulars Greg Conn, Rory Smith, Liam Cartledge on holiday, Paddy Stefaniak and Ashdon Bernard injured, Manager Jonathan Wass fielded Linbys youngest ever team. With keeper Jack Walker 31, eldest outfield player Ethan Fells 23, the rest of his squad 20 and under.
It wasn’t a match for the purists , a tough hard fought battle against a vastly improved , physical Arnold team, who shaded the first half, efforts from the impressive Jake Ogden and Toby Francis well saved by Walker .
Linbys best chance of the half saw Mason Moore lift his lob over onrushing keeper Danny Ridley , over the bar. Half Time 0-0.
Linby centre backs Josh Wass and George Skevington were again solid in snuffing out any further threats from Town, as the home team started to gain the upper hand . 51mins, good work from Spencer Pollitt set up Ewan Gibson , who saw his shot well saved by Rigley. A minute later Moores searching cross found Zach Hamilton , but his header flew narrowly over the bar. The vital breakthrough came on 72 minutes when , Gibson, Corey Wood and Pollitt combined to find Moore, on the right hand side of the area, he cut inside cleverly, and found a lovely finish , for the only goal of the game, 1-0.
Linby saw the game out quite comfortably, and will be hoping to see some of their squad returning for next week.
Line up. Walker, Trigg, Wass, Skevington, Fells, Wood, Gibson, Pollitt, Tassi, Moore, Hamilton
