Substitutes combine , to win the game for ten man Linby

MATCH REPORT .. 11th October 2025 … AJS EMBROIDERY ARENA
Central Midlands Alliance , Premier Division South
LINBY COLLIERY 2 GRESLEY ROVERS RESERVES 1
Attendance 132
A return match for Linby against a Gresley Rovers Reserves team , who soundly thrashed us 6-1 only five weeks ago. That being possibly Linbys worst showing for two seasons , definitely the worst while Jonathan Wass has been in charge of our First Team .
But, credit to our management team , and players, we saw a better version of Linby today. On the front foot from the start, more energetic , more co-ordinated .
But on 5 minutes , we should have been one down , against an equally lively Gresley side. Jack Walkers clearance was cut out by the dangerous Finn Cooper, he played a one-two ,and was in on goal , only to be bought down by Walker. Penalty . Walker made immediate amends saving Coopers spot kick.
In an end to end first half , Linby were denied what looked a certain penalty , for handball on 25 minutes, as a Spencer Pollitt shot was blocked on the line.
Linby took the lead on 36 minutes, an excellent cross to the far post from Paddy Stefaniak was headed back across goal by Ewan Gibson, to Rory Smith, who timed his run superbly to head home past Gresley Keeper Riley Peach , 1-0.
Half Time . Linby Colliery 1 Gresley Reserves 0
Gresley found an equaliser on 55 minutes, a pin point Cooper cross found Nathan Bowen at the far post , who headed home , past Walker 1-1.
Ash Bernard saw his shot well saved by Peach on 77 minutes.
An hard fought second half , with half chances at both ends, exploded into life , in the last 10 minutes. 80th minute, substitute Jacob Sucharewycz was fouled 30 yards out from the Gresley goal, Connor Whiles remonstrated with the visiting player involved. Too much in the Referees opinion , and received his second yellow card of the match , and was sent off, reducing Linby to ten men .
But , it was to be Linbys substitutes who won the game. 87th minute, new signing Corey Clarke, who had been lively, since he’d come on , on 60 minutes, crossed to the far post, fellow substitute Bernard took the ball down on his chest and volleyed over Peach , to score a wonderful goal, to win the game , for Linby , 2-1.
