They started well and controlled the game throughout the entire match scoring twice through captain Simon Miles and Jonny Bryan to finish the game 2 – 0 and secure promotion.
Unfortunately, the effort needed to make this success happen took its toll on the players, and without skipper Miles who had to return to exam revision, plus a rather inadequate break between matches, Lincs were comprehensively beaten 8 – 1 by a well-rested Norfolk team in the final. Lincs were happy enough with thier aim of securing promotion the main purpose of the day’s hockey and this was achieved following the first result.
Lincolnshire now look forward to next year and the A Division, where they will be playing against most of the top counties in the competition. From being in the C Division two seasons ago, manager Tony Perrin was “delighted” with what had been achieved in such a short period of time and stated, “we are still a young side with experience being gained all the time. If we can secure the services of those quality players that were missing from the team this year, then we have a great chance of competing with the best next season despite the Norfolk result, which was not a true reflection of what this team can do.”
