In the past few days, Holly Newman has confirmed her intent on returning for the forthcoming season, we at Lincoln United FC are delighted to announce.

Newman who joined the team on loan at the back end of the 18/19 season hit the ground running with nine goals in five games. The 19/20 season Newman also started the campaign well with goals in the opening two games (FA Cup and league), before having to take a break from the game for unforeseen circumstances. Upon Holly's return she again was back in the goals scoring two against Grimsby Borough; Holly brings significant quality on the ball and links fantastically well with strike partners and midfielders, a trait was hope to see this year at Ashby Avenue.

The returning stiker had this to say upon confirming she would be playing in white this season. "I am excited to be re-signing for what I anticipate to be a very successful season. We undoubtedly would have won the league last season, so to repeat that, and get further in the cups, would be a realistic target for us.

"On a personal level I have been working hard during pre pre-season but nothing compares to the camaraderie at training or in the dressing room. We already had a strong squad, it now has real quality in depth which is going to be important for a successful campaign.

"I'm looking forward to playing at Ashby Avenue. The club has a great set-up with stands and seats which is completely different to our last home ground, I hope we can get lots of support in our first season as Lincoln United Women.

"Lastly, I'd like to thank Jess Cully, I'm honoured to have you as my sponsor. We just need the nod for that start date now."

Women's team manager, Chris Funnell, commented, "I'm pleased Holly has chosen to return and give us another season. Last season wasn't the way any of us wanted the season to end but in Holly's case, with the break and then the pandemic, to call that your last season in football would have been really disappointing.

"I've spoken with Holly about returning and we were going to make a decision based on a number of factors but having seen her return to training in good condition, better condition than at the end of last season and continuing to work hard, I know she'll be an asset for us. Holly's a very good ball player, has great technique, an eye for goal, you don't represent your country without that as a striker; combine that with the condition she's returned in, I'm excited to see the Holly Newman we get on the pitch when we can finally get going.

"I'm extremely proud of the work she's put in and she should be proud of herself. Holly, along with three or four more players have experience which is going to be important as we get into the swing of things."

As has been mentioned, Holly has thankfully already been sponsored by Jess Cully. However, the women's team itself still has a number of sponsorship opportunities, come along and support 'The Whites' women in their inaugural season at Ashby Avenue. All details and contact details are in the commercial brochure below.
