Lincoln United overcame higher-league opposition Grantham Town 1-0 thanks to a late strike by substitute Sean Cann.

It was The Whites first win of pre-season following defeats to Lincoln City and Boston United.

Boss Sam Wilkinson said: “It was another very good work out and another test similar to those we will get week in and week out at our level.

“Grantham pressed really high and made us work hard.

“I thought our defending again was very good as we limited them to few chances.

“I was also pleased we had more possession than in our previous two games.

“Also we showed signs of improvement in the final third and played some good football at times.

“All in all it was a pleasing performance.

“We asked for gradual improvement and we have done that.

“We know we are still not where we want to be in terms of fitness and sharpness but we are heading in the right direction.

“It’s a good start to pre-season.”
