DESERVED POINT KEEPS WHITES IN PLAY-OFF CONTENTION

Lincoln United stretched their unbeaten run to nine league games when they picked up a valuable point at high-flying Sutton Coldfield on Saturday.

Despite going behind twice the Whites showed grit and quality to level the scores through headers, first from Kallum Smith just before the interval and then Andy Hutchinson on the hour mark.

The home side took the lead after 28 minutes when Justin Richards whipped a fine shot past Robert Peet after the Whites' defence failed to clear emphatically enough.

A minute before the break Matt Cotton found Kallum Smith poaching at the far post and the Whites wing back nodded home superbly to equalise.

Seven minutes after half time Sutton took the lead again when Jordan Nadat headed home unmarked.

However a Scott Ruthven chip, a Kallum Smith cross and an Andy Huitchinson header drew the Whites level.

It was a game where the home side had only two scoring opportunities but took them both.

The Gaffer's men dominated the second half but couldn't put away the numerous chances they created.

Matt Cotton constantly found gaps in the Sutton defence which looked frail at times especially against the pace of Hutch and the guile of Scott.

Overall an excellent performance.

These lads have not tasted defeat in the league since mid-November. They have lost only twice in 21 league matches.

Leek Town await this Saturday in what should be an enthralling encounter and a marker to see just how far the Gaffer's young guns have progressed this season.

Many thanks Sutton Coldfield for your warmth and hospitality.....and for serving up possibly the best chips in the Division!
