Mid-way through 'The Whites' pre-season programme, United travelled to Brigg Town to take on the North Lincolnshire based club, missing a significant number of players.
The absences didn't deter the young 'Whites' team who made a positive start to the game. Mcmenemy and Cotton were causing problems with their movement, backed up well by the midfield four. United had a few chances in the form of a Cotton free-kick which rattled the crossbar, whilst Liversidge and Mcmenemy also had a few snapshots around the 18-yard box but nothing to testing for the Brigg keeper.
A foul on Brigg's captain, Martin Pembleton, seemed to liven the home-side into action and for the remainder of the half, the majority of the action took place in United's defensive half. United gave away cheap free-kicks in and around their area but nothing testing of Spencer in goal who was superb for 'The Whites'.
Brigg's best chance came when Graves got in behind and pulled the ball back, allowing Hutson to blast the ball towards goals but thankfully for Spencer and United defence it was deflected wide.

United started the second half brightly, similarly to the first but this time got their just rewards. A period of continued pressure saw United force a corner, Lewis Smith whipped in a delightful ball and Foster got above all to head 'The Whites' in front.

In didn't take long before Brigg were level, all two minutes of it. From the restart, Town's build-up saw a free-flowing move cut open United and a neat finish, the home-side were level.

United were the more dominant team in the second half; Cotton, Smith and Mcmenemy combining well. It was the former two who created United's second goal. A well worked pattern found Cotton 25-yards out and his sliding ball found L.Smith who took the ball in his stride before deftly lifting and curling the ball past the keeper to give United the lead again.

'The Whites' were now on top and probably should have had more, had United's attacking players been more ruthless in and around the box. Brigg were still probing here and there but a sliding pass behind Arbon and Wilkinson saw the latter bring down Brigg's wide-man and the referee had but no choice to point to the spot. 'The Zebras' captain, Pembleton stood up and dispatched the ball deep into the side netting giving Woolley in goal, no chance.

As the match headed into the final 10 minutes, both sides went looking for the win but neither could show the quality needed to grab the third goal.
