That unbeaten run now stands at seven with five of them victories.
The Whites were flowing from the first whistle but as the game progressed Carlton dug in and whilst it was 1-0 they always had a chance and late in the game they should have made United pay but missed the chance.
The Whites thoroughly deserved the win however despite missing a rake of chances in the first period.
We opened brightly and were making headway down both flanks with Rob Norris and Kallum Smith in creative mood. In front of them Conner Robinson and Jack McGovern were in the mood so all looked good.
However as chances came and went we began to wonder, Robinson drove one into the side netting from a narrow angle, McGovern headed over, Andy Toyne and James Blunden both went close. Smith saw a good drive saved as did Luke Hornsey.
To be fair to the lads they were playing some neat football and always looked a threat. Ironically, our opening goal came as a result of a defensive error which fell to Robinson, he held off his marker, sped clear and lofted an excellent finish over the advancing keeper.
Right on half time Jack McGovern got free down the right and played the perfect ball across for Smith, who looked odds-on to score but the ball got tangled up as he surged into the box and the chance went begging.
After the break the pitch, which was cutting up, not surprisingly after the torrential rain the day before, the game got scrappy. Danny Brooks and Toyne had more of battle on their hands after running the first half.
McGovern headed just over but we couldn’t break down a more solid looking Carlton.as the second half developed.
Throughout we were rock solid defensively. Jake Turner made one great save and one good one and produced another solid show.
The two centre backs, Sean Wright and James Blunden were imperious. Those two, along with Luke Hornsey and Callum Ward made an excellent back four.
They only really gave Carlton one sniff, but how crucial it could have been. However the chance wasn't taken an moments later United had clinched the match with a superb flowing move from deep in their own half.
Toyne, Norris, Smith, and McGovern all played two touch football at pace to release Robinson who drew the keeper and found the far bottom corner in style to clinch the points.
