Behind the scenes Lincoln United enjoyed a good week with the relationship with Lincoln City growing stronger to both clubs benefit, and the hosting of a tremendous BHF charity game on Friday night.

The officials and volunteers work tirelessly running the club and planning new initiatives for the benefit of the organisation as a whole.

Sadly when it came to the main reason the club exists, to play football, things fell thoroughly flat with this display at lowly Carlton Town.

The hosts, with only one home league win all season, deserved the three points and the Whites got out the game what their performance warranted.

Charlie Ward was welcomed back into the fold and United fielded what appeared to be a very strong eleven with strength and experience on the bench if needed.

The opening exchanges looked promising for the Whites but Carlton took the lead against the run of play when Clark was allowed time to control the ball and pick his spot with a low drive.

United fought to get the equaliser and applied pressure at times being over-eager and getting caught offside. Happily I t came in the 32nd minute when Tom Garrick turned and beat the keeper from close range.

The Whites faithful then hoped their team would go on and dominate but more slack defending saw Blake score twice for Town in the 37th and 45th minute to give the away side a mountain to climb.

The second half was poor with Carlton holding on to their two goal advantage and United trying to claw their way back into the game without creating any real chances.

The home side deserved the win, they showed more aggression, and their players made more noise, with encouragement to team-mates coming from all over the pitch and from the sideline.

With two home games now coming up against the top two sides in the division the run of one win in twelve is going to be difficult to improve on. Improve it has to though otherwise the season will fizzle out completely and whilst it looks unlikely there is still the threat of relegation to face unless some points aren’t gained soon.
