A DAY OF FRUSTRATION
By Lincoln United
The Whites put out a strong starting eleven against their Yorkshire hosts and made a promising start.
came closest to scoring as United made the early running. Sadly it was the home side that took the lead though. Swinbourn advanced towards the Whites' penalty area and whilst he should have possibly been closed down there was no doubt his firm low drive was skilfully placed inside the post.
United were still in the game and needn't have let their heads drop. However keeper Mike Emery chose to try and beat an onrushing forward with some tricky footwork but the ball was nicked off him. Emery was adjudged to have dragged the opponent down, he was booked, and Rory Coleman scored with the penalty. This was a harsh blow to the team and Mike Emery was at fault, but he has been outstanding all season and mistakes like this are a rare event.
The second half, like the first, was very even. The home side held the advantage though and United struggled to create any meaningful chances despite a lot of effort. The game was well and truly lost when Danny Frost turned and fired home to extend the Stocksbridge lead still further.
The season end can't come soon enough in some ways, but the Whites remain in 13th place in the table, as they have for many weeks.
