Match Preview: Lincoln United vs Brighouse Town
After a determined home victory last week, Lincoln United host Brighouse Town in a tricky contest on Saturday.
The three points against Worksop ended ‘The Whites’ six-game losing streak and has moved them into thirteenth in the NPL – East Division Table.
Manager Sam Wilkinson said: “Obviously, we’re delighted – it feels like a bit of a weight off our shoulders and it's really good to get that victory - it’s been a long time coming! We’ve had a few good performances but been on a bad run. I thought Saturday was a real team performance, the effort the boys put in, the togetherness, the character they showed after the bad run of defeats was superb, so obviously the spirit is really high and ready to go again for Saturday”.
Brighouse Town have only won once in their last six games but sit higher than Lincoln in the table in tenth place by a gap of only three points with the manager acknowledging the need to build on last week’s result.
“We know we need to show at least that fight again and we’re still looking for a little bit more quality. So, we're looking to try to build up that momentum, having the work ethic and to show that grit and determination but also having a little bit more freedom in possession.”
With a recent win under their belts, United hope they can produce a more attacking performance and show that they can create and score goals as they displayed earlier in the season.
However, the manager has described the current injury situation as “grim” after Callum Foster had to come off against Worksop due to a hamstring injury as he now joins the other players out on the side-lines.
On the other hand, Simon Biggs and Callum Chapman have recovered and are now returning to light training to hopefully join up with the squad soon.
The manager also has given a special mention to the “brilliant” support last Saturday from all the fans and was delighted to hear the cheers for the goal, final whistle and as the players walked off.
Eyes now turn to Ashby Avenue for the fixture with kick-off at 3pm on Saturday.
