Lincoln United look set to host a competitive affair on Saturday as they come up against a Tadcaster Albion in need of the three points.
Both sides are hovering around the league’s relegation spots with ‘The Whites’ sitting in 15th, only three points ahead of their weekend opponents in the league.
Additionally, with only one win each in 2022, this will feel like a must-win game for either team.
After narrowly winning 2-1 in the reverse fixture last year, manager Sam Wilkinson is expecting another stern test.
“We won the last time we played Tadcaster, and it was a tough game then, but we expect it to be even tougher Saturday. There’s been a change in management and it’s a slightly different squad than the last time we played them.
“It’s a huge game for both clubs and it’s a real six-pointer so all form goes out the window in a game like this. We’ve got ten cup finals left and this is by far the biggest game of the season so far.”
With so much on the line at the weekend, the manager is hoping for one very simple thing.
“The main thing I want to see from the team on Saturday is to win. How we do that on Saturday I don’t really care. It will be massive for us, and we will set out to do that from the first whistle on Saturday.
“To give us the best chance we know we need to stop conceding goals. We must be more solid defensively if we want the three points, so we’ve worked on that in the last few training sessions.
“Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem all season and certainly not lately having scored eight in our last three games so we will still look to go forward with the quality we have.”
‘The Whites’ are still recovering from their injury crisis, but there’s hope Callum Foster will be fit in time for the game with the potential addition of one or two new signings to enter the frame.
Simon Biggs and Callum Chapman have both picked up injuries which is a severe blow to the side, but Max Baker and Jack Arbon are nearing a return to the side.
Ashby Avenue will host the important clash on Saturday with kick-off at 3pm.
