After a tough opening fixture defeat against a strong Louth Town side, Lincoln United Development travel to Wyberton FC for their second cup group match at the earlier KO time of 13:00.
Similarly to Louth Town, our young Development Squad met Wyberton earlier in the year during the standard league season; a comprehensive 3-0 win for the Lincolnshire League stalwarts from Boston. In comparison to United's 2-1 home defeat to Louth Town, Wyberton come into the game off the back of a 1-2 away win against a Grantham Town's Academy side.
Despite an earlier season defeat, United will travel to Wyberton with a much changed and arguably stronger squad, despite one or two being unavailable through injury. Development Squad Manager, Alex Hayes, had this to say on the upcoming fixture.
"We knew as a squad coming into this tournament that it would be very tough and the standard of the teams we were going to be playing would be high. Louth gave us a good indication of where we are as a squad and what we need to do to achieve the next steps. As always it’s very disappointing not coming away with at least a point, however it is a massive learning curve for my players and I.
This Saturday presents a different challenge but one we are looking forward to. Wyberton has always been a very tough place to go for any team and their style of play is something that many struggle to adapt too. With almost a fully fit squad I am hoping that we can take on board what we learned from the Louth game and what we worked on during training, hopefully turning a performance into 3 points".
