A week after playing one Yorkshire club and again, after late changes due to an opponent change, United travelled to National League club, Barnsley Women FC, to take on their reserves.

As ever with pre-season, 'The Whites' were without some first team players due to unavailabilities and injuries but were equipped much better than the previous week as Churcher, Farrow, Carter, Ringrose and Duxbury-Mead were welcomed back.

The match got off to a scrappy start with neither side showing any real composure and so chances were slim. The first chance came the way of the hosts when a well worked move down the right saw the striker smash the ball from the edge of the box before it cannoned off the crossbar.

Aside from that one shot, there was very little goalmouth action in the first half. United's best opportunities came down their right after some nice patterns between Cairns, Duxbury-Mead and Farrow.

The second half and 'The Whites' were better, forcing Barnsley to defend their defensive and middle third although quality was still lacking from United, mostly misplaced passes or loose touches in the final third.

Barnsley hit the woodwork again in the second half, this time a clearance fell to 'The Tykes' #7 and her effort from the edge of the box skidded up to strike the left post and clear of any danger, thankfully for United.

As the game edged on, United did whip in two brilliant crosses. Firstly, Lauren Carter's ball wasn't met by Ringrose and then Freeman's left footed cross evaded everyone. Meanwhile, Cairns blasted one over the bar from 20-yards.

The final passage of play saw Powell recycle the ball to Cairns on the half-way line, her pass found Duxbury-Mead who in-turn pulled it back for Churcher; a neat one-two with Ringrose saw Churcher find the back of the net in the 89th minute.

United could have extended their lead in the final minutes as Churcher found Duxbury-Mead inside the box but she couldn't generate enough power in her shot to test the keeper.
