Lincoln United WFC will host Chesterfield in the League Cup Second Round, a replay of the Cup's Final last year.

The two teams faced off earlier in the season, with Chesterfield coming away with a 2-1 win.

Looking towards the fixture, ‘The Whites’ manager Chris Funnell said: “I’m expecting a tight fixture. We know how we can hurt them, they know how they can hurt us. I expect it to be another chess-like match.

“With the Cup it’s a shame that last year's Cup Final has been drawn in the Second round. It’s a shame that one of us will be going out at this early stage.”

After losing to Chesterfield in September, ‘The Whites’ went onto string together a 8-match win streak, which has now translated to nine wins in the ten games since.

“Cal [Ward] and I were saying that we feel as though this is the purple patch in terms of our form, goal scoring, performances and everything about us right now. We’ve improved and come a long way since the 2-1.”

After a successful 2021, Funnell looked towards the new year, setting some goals and aims for his squad: “I want us to go as far as we can do in all competitions. Ultimately, put ourselves in the best position possible to be at the right side of the table – the players know that.

We need to continue to perform at the level we have been. I don’t want to put targets around points, league position, goals scored and clean sheets. The players know the expectations of Callum and I and we know theirs.”

Goalkeeper Amy Hood will be available for selection after missing the first half of the season with a torn ACL. Central midfielder Nadina Green will also be available for selection.

Fullback Frankie Wilson will miss the match with an ankle injury she sustained before the break. Forward Tracey Duxbury-Mead will also miss the game with a knee injury.

The game will be played this Sunday 9th January, 2pm KO at Ashby Avenue.
