The game started off slowly for the first 10 but it wasn't long until the deadlock was broken after just 12 minutes, through Demi Barai. She brought down the ball from Liv Smith’s free-kick, showing superb control, before firing the ball low into the bottom corner.

It took only two more minutes until the travelling side doubled their lead. Ellie Gilliatt made a run down the right wing and cut inside past the defender. Her shot could only be parried out by the keeper, and Betsy Thomas was in the perfect position to tap home.

In the 23rd minute, Gilliatt was involved again in the build-up to United’s third goal. She played the ball through to Tracey Duxbury-Mead, who took a touch before placing the ball across the keeper, into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later, Gilliat turned from provider to finisher. A ball from midfield found her running one-on-one with the keeper, she took the ball around her before rolling it into the back of the net.

Another goal came a minute later as Barai claimed her second. The keeper did well to save the initial shot, but was unlucky to see the ball fall to the midfielder, and watch her loft the ball into the top corner of the goal.

Manager Chris Funnell decided to rest some of his players with next week’s game in mind. Gilliat, Lauren Churcher, Barai and captain Chloe Hodgson, playing on her birthday, were replaced by Kaitlin Peaker, Zoë Devonport, Tallulah Freeman and Sally Cairns.

The home side began to grow into the game and take on more possesion of the ball in the last quarter.

It was 'The Whites' who got the next goal though. In the 78th minute, Peaker got her first goal after Thomas assisted her. She cut past the defender before blasting the ball low past the keeper.

Cleethorpes had a great chance to score after the ball evaded keeper Amy Hood, but was saved by Freeman as she ran back to beat the attacker to the ball.

Peaker got her second goal after 84 minutes. She followed in after Duxbury-Mead’s shot was saved and tapped in.
