A controlled performance from ‘The Whites’ gifted them another three points as they beat Rotherham United 4-0 and secured their second place position.

Manager Chris Funnell decided to stick with the side that thrashed Mansfield Town 7-1 away from home last Sunday.

As they have done in so many games this season, ‘The Whites’ scored the first goal of the game, after 10 minutes, to give themselves the biggest advantage possible. With the first of many brilliant crosses, Frankie Wilson produced a pin-point delivery onto the head of Tracey Duxbury-Mead, who powered the ball past the hosts’ keeper.

The green-kitted visitors continued to dominate the game and had many more chances to double their lead. Wilson continued to link up well with Duxbury-Mead, Ellie Gilliatt started to test the keeper, whilst Betsy Thomas and Lauren Churcher both joined in attacks.

A second goal finally came in the 37th minute from the boot of Churcher. Right winger Gilliatt played the ball to the other side for Thomas, who continued the passing sequence in setting up the attacking midfielder to poke past the keeper.

One more opportunity came before the half time interval as Gilliatt rattled the foot of the post and watched the ball fly away.

Eleven minutes into the second half, the away side found their third goal, again finished by Churcher. Duxbury-Mead flicked the ball down the line for Gilliatt to run onto, she comfortably beat her opposing defender before shooting into the bottom left corner. However, much to her half-hearted dismay Churcher was there to tap the ball in on the goal line.

Not long later, the home side had a great chance to pull a goal back and potentially start a comeback as one of their strikers found herself in a one-on-one situation with keeper Amy Hood. However, she wasn’t able to provide the clinical finish needed and fired the ball straight at the keeper.

A fourth goal came after 65 minutes. This time it was a fantastic team goal, started all the way back with Hood. She fired out the ball to Churcher on the wing, who played a one-two with Gilliatt, before crossing into the box for Duxbury-Mead to tap home.

Funnell rolled out the substitutions as the trio of Wilson, defensive midfielder Megan Long and Churcher were replaced by Tallulah Freeman, Liv Smith and Kaitlin Peaker.

‘The Whites’ finished the game in a calm manner, not looking to be in danger of losing their clean sheet.

They now have 34 points with one league game left of the season, but will quickly forget about their league campaign as they prepare to face Lincoln City in the final of the Lincolnshire Cup next Sunday at Boston United FC.

It will be a tricky game for ‘The Whites’ as City are a division higher up but they will no doubt be supported by many fans and cheered on throughout the game.
