First win of the season comes against Trinity Accies

After what has been a really tough season where a win seemed impossible to come by, Lismore 1XV eventually broke their duck in the second last game of the league season.

This rearranged fixture against Trinity was moved to a 10.30am kick off to accommodate Trinity as they had a sponsors event later in the afternoon.

The Lismore team was a rather thrown together affair where the last change to the squad was made at 8am with Craig Gilbert coming in for Ross Baillie. A lot of experience in the pack with Pete Phelan in the Row alongside Matt Murray (in his last Lismore game) and both Kenny Irons and Euan Murray on the flanks. Lynton Brinck moved from last Saturday's inside centre role to his more accustomed No 8 berth. The front row was Anthony Gallagher, Maxime Monsacre and Mark Spolton-Dean. Tony Price and Chris Gilmour (a late Friday night inclusion after Colin Duncan had to call off) made up a heavyweight bench.

The backs were a more ad hoc bunch. Ross Louden and Dougie Thyne were in their usual half back positions, but outside them John Penticost was back for his first game in months, Andy McSweeney slotted into outside centre and the back three were Liam Sweeney and Paul Reddish on the wings with Rory Allardice at fullback. Craig Gilbert on the bench.

After going behind early, Lismore hit back with a Lynton Brinck try, but a penalty put Trinity 5-10 up. Then big John Penticost crashed over for a try, Ross Louden coverting. 12-10. Next to score for Lismore was Matt Murray in a superb forwards move started by MSD, carried on by Muzz and finished off with a lung busting run by Matt to touch down in the corner. A further Trinity penalty meant a half time score of 17-13 to Lismore.

Unfortunately, I had to leave at this point to take Kirsty to her judo class, so missed the second half. It was with some nervousness that I phoned to find out the result. No need to worry. Three more tries from Lynton again, MSD and Andy Mac respectively with Dougie Thyne knocking over two conversions and no reply from Trinity meant a full time score of 36-13.

Well done lads!
